THE OBJECTIVES OF THE SOCIETY
To advance the practice and study of haematology
To promote good haematological practice
To facilitate contact between persons interested in haematology
THE SOCIETY PROMOTES THESE OBJECTIVES BY:
- Organising an Annual Scientific Meeting and offering financial support for regional scientific meetings
- Having the British Journal of Haematology as its official Journal and publishing regular Bulletins
- Publishing Guidelines from the British Committee for Standards in Haematology and maintaining a website facility
- Sub-Committees to promote the interests of those working in Paediatric Haematology and Clinical Science
- Annually offering a Fellowship, Scientific Scholarships for younger doctors and scientists in the discipline and Student Scholarships to support undergraduates undertaking electives in the field of Haematology
- Having representatives on the Intercollegiate Haematology Committee and the Joint Committee on Higher Medical Training
The Scientific Advisory Panel of the Society co-ordinates and promotes state-of-the-art aspects at scientific meetings. It comprises a selected group active in all fields of research in Haematology and they act as specialist advisers to meeting organisers and, in particular, to the President of the year and suggest future meeting topics.
The British Committee for Standards in Haematology (BCSH) is a standing sub-committee of the Society. It has four task forces which produce guidelines on different topics and these are published at regular intervals and members of the Society can access them on the bcshguidelines.com website.
The Paediatric Sub-Committee of the Society represents and promotes the interests of Paediatric Haematologists. The Paediatric Haematology Forum (PHF) embraces all areas of paediatric haematology and has representatives from all appropriate professional bodies.
The Science Sub-Committee of the Society has been established to represent and promote the interests of Clinical Scientists working in Haematology and has its own Clinical Science Haematology Forum.
