The BSH offer a range of grants for clinical and non-clinical professionals working with haematology.

These range from travel grants to attend the BSH Annual scientific meeting; grants to attend international meetings; fellowships to support short-term study periods at international scientific or clinical centres; clinical fellows and Ph.D. studentships and Start-up grants for new haematological investigators.

All applications should be made online with a signed copy being sent to the Scientific Secretary at the BSH Headquarters.

Top Elimination of Leukaemia Fund Grants and Fellowships



Each year the Elimination of Leukaemia Fund, ELF, awards a number of grants and fellowships. There are three classes of award that are specifically directed at nurses.


Grants for Hospital Wards



Each year ELF awards a number of small valued grants to help haematological wards and units procure items that would directly improve the care, support and treatment of patients. These grants are only awarded for items that have a specific haematological purpose.


Children with Leukaemia



A UK charity dedicated to fighting childhood cancer. Details of the current grant round are inside.


Mary Evelyn Lucking Prize in Medicine



This Prize is awarded trienially by Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge for a significant contribution or research normally completed within seven years of taking the final MB degree in the field of, Leukaemia research, Nephrology, Dermatology.


BSH Early-Stage Investigator Start-up Fellowship 2013



Applications are invited for a new award of a BSH Early-Stage Investigator Start-up Fellowship. This Fellowship is open to Early-Stage non-clinical lecturers or clinical senior lecturers working in any area of haematology. Applicants must be within two years of their appointment at this level and must also be members of the BSH. The maximum funding available is £65,000 per year for a maximum period of two years.


BSH/NHSBT Clinical Fellowship



Applications are invited for a new award of a BSH/NHSBT Clinical Fellowship. This fellowship is open to clinicians in training, along with a UK host sponsor, for a new 3-year research fellowship, leading to a PhD, funded jointly by BSH and NHS Blood and Transplant. The aim of the fellowship is to support either laboratory or clinical research contributing to the management of patients requiring blood components. Up to £80,000/year is available to cover salary and consumables, plus conference attendance and degree fees. Both applicant and supervisor must be BSH members.
