What the Society does

The British Society for Haematology is a professional membership body and registered charity. It was founded in 1960.

Currently the Society has some 1500 members.

The objects for which the Society was established are: to advance the practice and study of haematology and to facilitate contact between persons interested in haematology.

The Society promotes these objects through:


Organising an Annual Scientific Meeting and offering financial support for regional scientific meetings.

Having the British Journal of Haematology as its official journal

Publishing guidelines from the British Committee for Standards in Haematology

The work of its Education, Paediatric and Science Sub Committees.

Its grants programme, which includes annual awards for younger doctors and scientists in the discipline and student scholarships to support undergraduates taking electives in the field of haematology.

Having representatives on the Intercollegiate Committee on Haematology and the Joint Committee on Higher Medical Training and a number of other committees and advisory bodies which influence issues related to haematology.

Structure and Staff


STAFF

The Society has three staff members based at its headquarters in London: Katy Amberley, Daphne Harvey and Rita Gupta, who are responsible for the day-to-day running of the Society's business.
