Reducing the inappropriate use and wastage of platelets

Please read the attached documents, the purpose of which is to: • Inform hospitals what action is being taken within NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) to meet the unprecedented demand for platelets (an increase of approximately 10% this year compared to last) and reduce wastage. • Recommend how NHSBT, the National Blood Transfusion Committee (NBTC), Regional Transfusion Committees (RTC) and hospitals should work together to reduce the inappropriate use and wastage of platelets.
